Spurgeon & "Ordo Salutis"

RESEARCH ON SPURGEON'S VIEW

Stephen Garrett at BaptistGadfly has a very interesting item which reveals how C. H. Spurgeon made use of a book by a contemporary writer who held the creedal view on the New Birth in contrast to the "born again before faith" view of modern Reformed writers. Stephen says:

An old book, "A handbook of revealed theology," published in 1861 by John Stock, had a chapter on the "new birth," and was a book recommended by Spurgeon. Before I cite from that chapter, let me first cite from the words of Spurgeon. He wrote:
