Liberty Outfoxes James White?
Brother Bob Ross has a few words about "Dr." James White's cancelling the debate at Liberty University."White Whine" is again flowing freely from Phoenix. Brother James blew his chance to debate "in the big league" and now all he can do is whine about it. Of course, he may continue his pee-wee debates with the Sovereign Grace sea cruises.
Personally, I believe Brother James was more than a little worried about taking on the Caners. James has a severe case of Rossphobia and now it seems he has developed Canerphobia to go along with it. He had a chance to go toe-to-toe for two hours but now he has nothing. I assume Dr. Mohler is happy.
Poor James. At least he still has his Sunday School class, where I suppose they will get an extended update on James' latest antics.

While James White and the "Flounderites" are whining about White's cancellation of the debate due to his refusal to accept Liberty's 2-hour format, it is obvious that Jerry Falwell and Liberty have outfoxed James White. Was it foreordained and predestinated to conclude this way?
When I first heard of this proposed debate, I thought, "Why in the world is Jerry Falwell and Liberty tinkering with a small fry like James White? Why give White a platform to promote Hybrid Calvinism before students who are most likely not theologically mature enough to discern the fallacies of this pedobaptist/Hardshell form of 'Calvinism?'"
White could have had his "15 minutes of fame" by debating at Liberty, but by the exercise of his own will ("free will"?) he has muffed his opportunity. By grinding so profusely about the specifics of the debate, he fumbled the ball and now can only have his "pity party" about the canceled debate. He canceled out his "golden opportunity" by insisting on getting what he wanted, and he is left now to only reminisce on "what might have been."
Looks like he will have to be satisfied with the "fame" he accrues from engaging offbeat cultists, Romanists, Muslims, and other assorted heretics.
In this contest of wits, the Liberty element has succeeded. And they may have spared some of the immature students from being misled by Hybrid Calvinism.

you have hit the nail on the head, my friend. over on the founders blog they are whining and crying the blues big time. and, i might add that they are blaming the caners and liberty u. for the debate being called off. they are calling falwell and the caners everything but good boys.

My own take on the debate centers on the public strife between the two "brothers" (White & Caner). Am I completely off base to suggest that no debate OUGHT to have happened, if, for no other reason, that, due to the hostility passed between them, no real communication about the issues could bre sustained?

Liberty's immature behavior in this matter has been noted by many non-hybrids and is an unfortunate chapter in their story.
Congrats to Liberty for successfully forcing White and Ascol to throw their hands up, by being as obstinant, childish, and rude as possible. They had been trying to do that ever since they started this discussion, realizing they were WAY over their heads, but not wanting to quit. They win and they are not out plane tickets or anything. Kudos Caners!

It should have never taken place with James White ostensibly representing Calvinism -- and if the Caners accepted White's Hybrid Calvinism as being Creedal Calvinism. I'm not sure the Caners know enough about Creedal Calvinism to realize that White is a Hybrid aberrant. They would have to be versed in the Creeds sufficiently to counter White's false doctrine of "born again before faith," and I have not seen any evidence that they meet that requirement.
NOTE TO SCOTT MORGAN: Why don't you just get back to helping the wife putup preserves of the Kudzu?

Again? Brother, they already come to The Flyswatter. Traffic is as good as ever. We not only invited him to come, but sent the invitation to the Elders of his own church in Phoenix.
We have never gotten a response from either James White or his church's elders. I sent the following to the church in Phoenix, also to my own email list, and it was posted on the Calvinist Flyswatter. We got nothing but the "silent" treatment:

The Elders of the Reformed Baptist Church of Phoenix, Arizona are hereby formally invited to come to Pasadena, Texas for the presentation of charges against Bob L. Ross by James White before Park Temple Baptist Church.
Proceeding according to Scripture, Matthew 18:15-18, Brother White is first invited to confer with Brother Ross privately.
If they cannot settle the complaint, then Brother White is invited to take one or two more to discuss the complaint with Brother Ross, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
If that does not settle the matter to Brother White's satisfaction, then he is invited to present the matter before the church here in Pasadena where Brother Ross is a member and subject to discipline.
Our church hopes that the third step does not become necessary, but if it does, we hope a cordinal settlement is reached.
I am acting for the church where I am a member, Park Temple, and hope this matter may be resolved to every one's satisfaction. --

Despite sending this to James and the Elders at Phoenix more than once, we never even received a "courtesy reply." No one even acknowledged receiving our invitation. James made the demand, but made no subsequent response to our invitation to present his charges. He was all "bark" and no "bite."
So James' "backing out" of something is not new. In fact, he "backed out" of even receiving email from me awhile back after I exposed his equivocation on John MacArthur related to JMac's heterodoxy on "Sonship," which JMac later recanted. That story, of course, is in the Flyswatter's archives.

I have seen on their blogs where they warn people not to visit The Calvinist Flyswatter. Of course, they visit anyway but the peer pressure is such that they don't post as often as before.
Bob, you have been the leading publisher of Spurgeon for, what, fifty years now? That's longer than most of these "defenders of the fake" have been alive! You were studying and debating issues such as the “born again before faith” heresy before guys like Gene Bridges and Timmy Brister were even born.
Their reluctance to post is probably a good thing. This way, we don't have to spend all our time responding to the same inane comments over and over again.
