Southern Seminary Students Attack Invitations
The false doctrine of "born again before faith" that is taught at Southern Seminary has produced students which theologically are at odds with the Southern Baptist churches that help pay their tutition. In this article, Brother Bob Ross finds Southern students attacking the historic and God honoring practice of having invitations during church services. Southern Baptists wanting a defense of altar calls should read Brother Bob's comprehensive writings on the subject. It's strange that the real founders of the Southern Baptist Convention wholeheartedly supported giving invitations. When are Southern Baptists going to do something about Southern Seminary?

SBTS STUDENTS ATTACK INVITATIONS
Bob to Charles:
I noticed, Charles, that some students at Southern Seminary are attacking public invitations, despite the fact that Seminary Founders, such as John A. Broadus, endorsed the use of invitations.
Do you suppose they are disciples of Professor Tom Nettles, one of the most pronounced of the Hybrid Calvinists on the Faculty? See Invitations: John A. Broadus versus Tom Nettles.
What percentage, Charles, of these students do you suppose made public professions of faith in Christ at services where an invitation was given -- 99% or 100%?
I read enough of the website materials by the SBTS students to conclude that the vast majority of their objections are "hybridized" from pedobaptist Iain Murray. Murray endorses invitations to parents to bring forth their infants for baptism and church membership, on the presumption that the offspring of pedobaptist believers inherit salvation, but he repudiates invitations to the unsaved to accept Christ and come forward to confess Him.
I have A REPLY to Murray's booklet on our Pilgrim Publications website, as follows: http://www.pilgrimpublications.com/invite1.htm
Also, there are a number of my articles which respond to anti-invitationalism on the following website at --

"Because God creates saving faith through the preaching of His word. No heart is won without
ears hearing, and no ears hearing without a herald." Mark Dever
The Word is clear on the matter of evangelistic invitations.
a. Jesus is the Word of God made flesh. John 1.
b. God's Word accomplishes its mission completely. Isaiah 55:9-11.
c. We are saved by God's grace, through faith. Luke 7:50, 18:42. Romans 1:17, Ephesians 2:8-9, Hebrews 11, etc.
d. Faith comes from hearing the Word of God. Romans 10:17.
e. Christ commanded us to spread the Gospel around the world and teach them everything he taught us. Matthew 28:16-20, Acts 1:8, etc.
f. Jesus himself offered an invitations for sinners to be saved. Matthew 4:17, 11:28, Luke 13:1-8, Revelation 3:20, etc.
g. Peter, John, Paul, Silas, etc. preached for sinners to repent. Acts 2:38, 8:22, 17:30, 26:20, etc.
Sure, God's Word is evident without preaching (Romans 1:20); but that in no way excuses us from our duty...
I have spoken with SWTS grads who believed no one was going to Perdition and we should all just try to get along with each other (kum bah yah). In fact, we had one try out for our little church and admit he placed the words of Buddha and Confucious and Mohammed on the same level with the Scriptures. Sad, really. His responsibility will be very great...
Thanks for an interesting blog. I've bookmarked you!
