Ascol Announces A "Calvinism" Conference

Brother Bob Ross questions whether Tom Ascol is really holding a "Calvinism" conference.

Click here to discover the difference between real, creedal Calvinism and the hybrid/hyper/neo/extreme "Calvinism" of Tom Ascol and the "Flounders."

ASCOL ANNOUNCES A "CALVINISM" CONFERENCE

Bob to Charles:

Tom Ascol has announced on his blog a Calvinism Conference for Southern Baptists in November.
He says:

>>
A conference on Southern Baptists and Calvinism
Today at the Founders Breakfast in San Antonio, I announced an upcoming conference on "Building Bridges: Southern Baptists and Calvinism." The conference is being jointly sponsored by Founders Ministries and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. It is scheduled for November 26-28 at Ridgecrest Conference Center in North Carolina. . . .

The purpose of this conference is to bring together Southern Baptists of various theological commitments in order to hear pointed presentations and dialogue about what is arguably the most important theological movement among us today.

What are the chances, Charles, that a Creedal Calvinist who has a "theological commitment" which opposes Hybrid Calvinism with its "born again before faith" theory will be invited to make a "pointed presentation and dialogue" on this issue?

REGENERATION -- CALVINISM

Bob and Charles,

In case you haven't heard, Ascol's "Integrity in Church Membership" motion went down in flames.

For a man so worried about "integrity," I wish he would tell his friends to quit splitting churches here in Georgia. The Founders' pastors have no problem sneaking into a church undercover and then pushing their brand of the "doctrines of grace." By the time the church finds out - TOO LATE - the pastor has won enough church members over to hyper-Calvinism that he can either survive a vote to dismiss OR he can take his converts and do a little "church planting."

Where is the INTEGRITY in that?

Brother Ernest Reisinger, the Founder of the "Flounders," wrote a small book called A QUIET REVOLUTION. In that book, he offers his own experience with the North Pompano Baptist Church as somewhat of an example of "reformation." Among other things, he gives some "practical suggestions" on "how to" do this work of "reformation" with an existing church.

For example, he says:

>>
In the pulpit, don't use theological language that is not found in the Bible. Avoid terms such as Calvinism, reformed, doctrines of grace, particular redemption, etc. Most people will not know what you are talking about. Many that do will become inflamed against you. Teach your people the biblical truth of these doctrines without providing distracting labels for them.

Unfortunately, it does appears that the reformation in the North Pompano church was not so enduring.

Dear Charles:

I am running into this Hyper Calvinism in churches that I am visiting and I am turned off by it. I am also disgusted with reading writings by some of the "founders.org" people regarding the idea that men are first regenerated and then made believers later. That is Hyper Calvinism and Hardshellism and I hate seeing it.

To support their view that the first Baptists believed Hyper Calvinism, I have noticed how those first Baptists get misquoted.

I hope you and Bob continue to point out the difference between Calvinism and Hyper Calvinism.

I am with you in this. God speed.
